Scenario

Steps

Scenario:

User “Stacy” has accidentally deleted a shortcut on her desktop, and now you (the help desk tech) need to re-create it. Stacy’s machine name, in this case, is “helpdeskdh”

Constraint: Remoting in to user’s system is not an option. How to proceed?

Steps:

Since you have admin rights, you are able to access a remote client machine.

On your server desktop, open File Explorer.

In the address bar, type the following: “\\helpdeskdh\c$”

“\\” – indicates a network path

“helpdeskdh” = machine name you want to access

“C$” – allows you to access the remote machine.

Press ENTER.
(The folder structure on the target machine displays.)

Now that you have access to user Stacy’s system, you can drill down to Users/Stacy/desktop.

At this point, we can re-create the shortcut to the shared folder.
